I had this installed on 2/3/2010 and it is now 3/3/2010. Exactly 30 days after installing it, it is leaking terribly. There is soapy water flooding out from under the machine. The water is coming out almost as quickly as it is entering the tub. I’m quite disappointed.
I bought this machine when the motor on my 15 year old GE spacemaker went. Apparently, the motor is on the other side now, and the original motors aren’t being made any more. I was pleased with that machine and although I researched others, I decided there was no reason to switch. I’m happy with my decision. The machine washes and dries small, medium, and large loads just fine; it handles everything I need to wash except queen comforters. I usually just take that to the dry cleaner or a laundromat. It fits well into the closet space I have, leaving room for plenty of shelving and other things, a true bonus in a condo. I wouldn’t say it’s noisy, but I can hear it, and I haven’t noticed it shaking. A final plus – and I looked for this specifically – is that it doesn’t have a buzzer to signify the end of the cycle. I find those alarming and unnecessary. If you’re tight on space, this is a good buy in my view. (I gave it four stars only because I don’t feel well versed enough in laundry units to say this is the best.)
After 3 years the inner tub rubbed against the outer tub on spin cycle, which wore a hole in the outer tub. Upon taking it apart I discovered the reason for the failure – one of the bolts on the trunion clamp had been broken off at the factory! This caused the tub to come out of alignment and rub against the outer tub in spin cycle.
GE customer service is terrible, they won’t have nothing to do with it after their 1 year warranty expires even if it is a obvious factory defect. And the parts are expensive! I will never buy a GE product again.
This was the only type of washer/dryer we could buy. It’s not awful but it’s on the small side and I bang my head a lot when lifting clothes out of the washer to put in the dryer. The dryer door should lock open so this will not happen.
We purchased a new condo 3 years ago that had this washer/dryer. Completely died after 3 years. The transmission blew and a created a hole in bottom of tub leaving water running all over my floor.
For everyday use, quite dependable. Cleans well, but the dryer cycle seems to take a long time.
perfect for reduced spaces
Our family really enjoys this washer/dryer combo. We use it as our second washer. It is FANTASTIC for quick loads of laundry holds a queen size set of sheets and about 5 bath towls.
